In Pengshan District, Meishan City, Sichuan Province, lies a tranquil town called Gongyi. In Power Link’s orchards growing Shine Muscat, hailed as the “Hermes of the grape world.” Many people ask us: Why plant Japanese grape varieties in Pengshan District? The answer lies in a long experiment involving Link. This is a core grape-growing region with natural advantages.
Ten years ago, when we decided to locate our farm in Gongyi Town, Pengshan District, Meishan City, Sichuan Province, there was considerable skepticism. Located on the southwestern edge of the Chengdu Plain, where the Minjiang and Jinjiang rivers converge, it offers several advantages. On one hand, it’s a natural greenhouse: the subtropical humid climate brings abundant rainfall and plentiful sunshine. On the other hand, the climate here is far more “extreme” than the original growing region of Shine Muscat grapes in Japan: Sichuan’s topography is a vast basin with high temperatures and humidity in summer, like a giant sauna; The pressure is unimaginable from textbooks. But for Power Link, the name “Power Link” itself represents a belief and a force.
What we aim to do is build a strong connection—connecting the genes of Japan’s top grape varieties with this vibrant land. Let the “delicate” Shine Muscat grape take root in Gongyi Town.

While Shine Muscat with high quality, it’s notoriously “delicate.” It’s not the kind of variety that can simply be planted and produce abundant fruit; It’s a “princeling” that requires meticulous care. To allow it to thrive in Gongyi Town, the Power Link team conducted a years-long “acclimatization experiment”:
1. Soil Reconstruction:
The soil in Pengshan is heavy and clayey, while Shine Muscat suitable for loose, well-drained sandy loam.
We started by improving the soil PH in the orchard, bringing in different organic fertilizers including pig manure, mushroom compost, and straw to improve soil structure and environment, maintaining a PH between 6.0 and 7.0.
We also improved the soil’s organic matter content, keeping it between 6% and 8%, as too low organic matter can lead to fruit lacking aroma and uneven sugar content.
We deeply cultivated the soil and maintained its permeability. Shine Muscat grapes prefer ample moisture but are susceptible to waterlogging.
2. Building Rain Shelters:
In response to Sichuan’s rainy and humid climate, we didn’t simply copy Japan’s open-field cultivation method but introduced a high-standard rain shelter system. This protects the grape bunches and controls humidity better.
This allows each bunch of grapes to grow in a dry, clean microenvironment, minimizing disease infestation and significantly improving quality and yield.
3 Extreme Fruit Thinning:
This is Power Link’s most “foolish” yet most ruthless step. If you prioritize yield, a single vine can bear over a dozen bunches of Shine Muscat grapes, but the resulting fruit will have thick skin, a bland flavor, loose berries, and uneven size.
We insist on one bunch per shoot, or even one bunch per two shoots. “Power Link isn’t about quantity, it’s about quality.” Only by concentrating most of the nutrients on a few bunches can you cultivate that signature burst of juice and intense sweetness, resulting in a more fragrant aroma.
Through several years of refinement, Power Link’s Shine Muscat grapes have finally developed their own unique expression. When you pick up a bunch of our grapes, you’ll find: large, beautifully shaped berries, the entire bunch a translucent yellow-green, like meticulously polished emeralds. The moment you bite into the skin, you’ll first hear a crisp “crunch,” followed by an explosion of sweet juice in your mouth. It lacks the pronounced tartness of regular Kyoho grapes and the monotonous sweetness of Red Globe grapes, instead offering a complex sweetness with a delicate rose aroma. Thanks to meticulous flowering management and seedless processing, our Shine Muscat grapes truly achieve “eat grapes without spitting out the skin (and seeds).” Biting them skin-on, they are not only crisp but also subtly fragrant. This is not just a replica of the Japanese origin, but a new flavor nurtured by Power Link and this land.
